Various Types of Pavement Design

Book a Course

Endorsed by CIHT for CPD

There are various types of pavement design, dependent upon location; Motorway, Trunk road or local highway authority network. The Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) dictates how the majority of UK highways are designed. The use of these documents are mandatory for operations on Motorways and Trunk Roads. Many Local Authorities use the DMRB to govern work on their highways, however as changes in legislation and austerity measures are altering how local authorities review and change their techniques for road maintenance, this course will:

  • Enable you to consider the impact of DMRB
  • Assist understanding of new legislation and analysis measures
  • Assess your understanding of various types of maintenance and construction techniques
  • Undertake exercises of various types of road pavement design

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:-

  • Calculate the Design Traffic for maintenance projects and new road schemes
  • Design foundations
  • Ascertain the thicknesses of the various layers in the pavement
  • Best practice of non Trunk road schemes
