Here is a summary of what I covered at the meeting this week.
National Construction College: NCC
CITB are now developing NCC and investing in its future (lot of media advertising, apprenticeship offering and also re-in forcing to wider construction sector that NCC is open for business “We build to grow”

Leadership & Management
- CITB have created a brand new framework of 11 short courses in Leadership & Management linked to Institute for Leadership & Management frameworks.
- Designed for upskilling supervisers & Managers.
- Employers can choose to take one module as a short course or take a “pick and mix” approach to learning. CITB registered employers can receive £70 – £120 for each module.

CITB performance report
- 28,980 apprenticeship starts across industry
- 32% increase in number of visitors to Go Construct
- 3% increase in the number of employers accessing grants
- 32% of companies in Scotland claiming grant
Scottish Academy for Construction Opportunities
Following on from the CITB industry events in June, we received tenders and have offered contracts to 1. An island partnership (Western Isles, Orkney, Shetland) 2. Barnardos
Training Groups
In UK, 30,000 training days delivered, just short of 2,000 employers supported
Plant standards & Grants
- Industry consultation October/November 21
- Aim to review and simplify employer access to Plant Grants
- Key themes: training and assessment should be combined in relation to CITB standards
- CITB standards should include minimum trainer and assessor requirements
- Changes being introduced in January 2023 for:
- Excavator 360, above 10 tonnes
- Forward tipping dumper
- Rear tipping dumper
- Ride on roller
- Tele handler
- Industrial forklift
- Plant & vehicle marshaller
- Slinger, signaller all types
- Grant rates are also changed
